So here we are, October 30th 2012, just one day from Halloween and about a month and a half from the end of the world. Or age. Whatever you want to call it. People don’t seem as concerned as they were in 1999 about all the computers stopping. I guess if there’s no one to enjoy computers then what’s the point. Either way, we’re pretty much ready for the apocalypse, but in the event that doesn’t happen, we’ve got a good contingency plan for existing beyond 2012 and into the future time.

And so, in an effort to make this News section relevant, here’s a run-down of some of the things we did this year here at MB and what’s in store for the future.

It’s here!!! A good part of this year was devoted to getting the long-awaited MB: Volume 2 in order. Now we’re proud to say the wait is finally over. Ballistic Publishing has done a superb job on our second art book which as-of-writing-this-post is ready to be sent to stores and shelves. This time around there’s a sweet leather-bound Collectors and Limited Edition available for both volumes. So, if you want to be the ultimate collector and MB super-fan, you can now get black and white leather-bound copies of our art book to sit on your shelf as you drink brandy out of a snifter. That’s what I’d do.






Mothhead Demo Released!

Our Mothhead Demos is released! Late last year, we wrapped up work on our first major foray in Unity before switching gears onto Zombie Playground. Building the Mothhead demo, resplendent with detailed characters, levels and interactions, was an amazing invaluable experience for understanding how Unity works, and how to make cool stuff with it. Since that time we’ve worked with Unity to make it as optimized and slick as possible, again valuable experience for the prime-time release of ZPG in near future. Now you can play it live, here and free on the Unity site. Help Mothhead find his head, his friends, and get the hell out of the underground area. Check it out and let us know what you think!

Our WorkshopSF 2012 was a huge success! On August 9th-12th Massive Black, SixMoreVodka, Steambot and lots of our mutual friends descended on the Powell st. Building of the Academy of Art University in San Francisco for 4 days of non-stop art, learning and general art-growth making. We’re used to doing these workshops the right way now and this latest one was no exception. The great thing about WSSF2012 was our new partnership with the Academy of Art here in SF, which played gracious hosts to our event with the use of their facilities and resources. So, a BIG thanks goes out to AAU for making this latest and greatest event a reality! I can’t make any announcements here yet, but it’s a safe bet that we’ll be doing another one of these, in this fashion, if the earth doesn’t blow up, sometime next year. Hope to see yalls there! ;D

Zombie Playground is our the current in-house Intellectual Property we’re working on full-force here at MB. Once again, we’d like to thank all of the backers for our successful Kickstarter campaign that reached it’s goal of over $100,000 on June 26th. Much to our delight and surprise our final total was $167,590. We’ve gotten a lot of great feedback and response from the fans eager to see this title released, and take it from us, we’re ready to rise to the occasion. With our noses to the grindstone, we have been voraciously prepping the Closed Alpha release. For those of you who backed that Kickstarter Tier, Closed Alpha is still slated for release sometime in December. The Closed Alpha build won’t include all the content we have planned for the March Alpha release of ZPG, but this early look will certainly give you a good feel for what ZPG is intended to ultimately be. While the Closed Alpha build will be a single player experience, the March Alpha release will of course include coop online multiplayer (at the very least) and tons of additional assets/options/encounters/textures/etc that aren’t yet ready for the Closed Alpha. Those of you who backed the Closed Alpha Tier and have the rare opportunity to play the Closed Alpha build, expect to receive an email with unlock codes when the time is ready. Exciting!!
